about

“Hypnosis: Deep House Sitar”, the Valley Entertainment debut from Los Angeles’ Ronobir. This sitar-driven deep progressive house record is set to open ears to a new world with four original songs and covers of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” and Foster The People’s “Pumped Up Kicks.

“Hypnosis: Deep House Sitar”, the Valley Entertainment debut from Los Angeles’ Ronobir. This sitar-driven deep progressive house record is set to open ears to a whole new world of music. In addition to Ronobir’s four powerful original songs (available here in both shorter edits and full unabridged editions), the album also features interpretations of two recent hits: Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” and Foster The People’s “Pumped Up Kicks”.

Ronobir Lahiri has been bothering and bothered by Indian music for more than two decades. After intense classical training as a teenager in Calcutta, India under Sri Deepak Choudhuri, the preeminent disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar, he returned to America to begin a career in theatre, film, and television – both as a composer and actor. After graduating from Yale University in 1994 with a BA in Theater Studies and Literature, Ronobir spent the next several years in theater on Broadway, the Williamstown Theater Festival, the West End, and Hollywood. As an actor on the screen, he has appeared on “Two and a Half Men”, “Bones”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Desperate Housewives”, and “Cold Case”.

After settling in Los Angeles, Ronobir began focusing on music – recording original albums and composing music for film and television. Since 2013 he has played sitar on albums for Ziggy Marley and Katy Perry, was an on-stage guest with the Blue Man Group, and been named a music director for the Apollo Theater’s celebration for the Godfather of Soul – “James Brown: Get on the Good Foot”.
